Pages 2 and 3 of this document are graphs of the performance of Emery Unified School District students in the Spring 2003 STAR testing for English Language Arts and Mathematics. Grades 2 through 11 are tested. Only the results for the California Standards Tests are shown. The CAT6 and the Writing Tests for Grades 4 and 7 are not included. Anyone who is interested can view additional results, including scores disaggregated for language and ethnicity, at:

These are results for all students for whom valid scores were available. If they are compared to the scores which are used to calculate Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for the federal No Child Left Behind program or the Academic Progress Index (API) for the state Public Schools Accountability Act, it should be remembered that the state and federal programs have unique regulations for which scores be counted which take into account how long the student has been in the district.

In interpreting the math scores in grades 9-12, it is also important to keep in mind that these results cannot easily be compared with other schools, because each student takes a different test: general math, Algebra, geometry, Algebra II, or the summative test. For this reason, comparisons are better made using the results from the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) as is done in AYP.
